VARSHA RITUCHARYA (SEASONAL ROUTINE):


      


Varsha ritucharya or rainy season routine is described in Ayurvedic text by scholars after practical application on their patients.

Rainy season is the period between Mid July to Mid Sep. According to Ayurveda it is the sharvan and Bhadrapada Ritu. As per Doshas vata dosha is naturally aggrevated in rainy season and pitta and kapha dosha are secondary to it. Varsha Ritu is considered the sanchay kal ( collection period ) for Pitta dosha in the body.

Let us discuss Diet and lifestyle during Varsha Rutu.

Diet:

·      Rainy season is the period where digestive system goes slow, Eating light , less oily foodstuffs is recommended in this season.

·      Dairy products like curd should be completely avoided .Curd is heavy in nature to digest.

·      Drinking warm water everyday will help boost immunity and digestion in body.

·      Leafy vegetables should be consumed sparingly.

·      Warm soups are considered refreshing and digestive .

·      Pulses and old grains are used in different menus for food.

·      Ghee consumption 1 tbsp everyday is considered vata and pitta pacifying.

·      Having flavoured tea helps reduce aggravated doshas .

·      Ginger,pepper flavoured teas and decoction are helpful in pacifying doshas.

Lifestyle:

·      Humidity increases along with cold and breezy weather so infection tendency increases in this season.

·      Taking care of feet and legs is essential as germs may enter due to wet and cold feet in the body.

·      Sweating is also an issue so using deodorant and antifungal powders is beneficial to avoid any skin related issues.

·      Using neem leaves in bathing water give antibacterial action on your skin.

·      Kids should be given foodstuffs which does not increase kapha and vata dosha in their body. Turmeric milk 1 cup everyday is beneficial for kids during this season to fight cold and cough issues.

·      Allergic conditions also aggravate in rainy season so taking sunthi nasal drops every morning and evening helps reduce the condition.

·      Various panchkarmas like medicated basti, nasyas, shirodhara are done to reduce all the 3 doshas in the body.

·      It is advice to do ayurvedic Pedicure and Manicure in rainy season to avoid any kind of skin infection .

·      People who have allergic issues need to take care to close their ears and head with proper gear like scarf or muffs to avoid vata and pitta dosha aggression.

·      Decoction prepared by mixing pudina(mint leaves)+ginger+jaggery+tulsi(basil leaves) is considered as an ultimate kapha and vata dosha pacifier.

·      Sleeping in afternoon should be avoided.

·      Eating food which is hot is adviced . Stale foodstuffs should not be consumed in rainy season.

·      Exercise regularly by practicing yogasanas and pranayama .
