A Modern solution of ancient ayurvedic seasonal regime.






The word Rutucharya consist of two words RUTU means season and charya means regimes or body activity.



In India we experience 6 seasons Shishir, Vasant, Grishma,Hemant,Sharad,Varsha. Out of these Shishir, Vasant , Grishma come in uttarayana kala (northern solstice)and varsha ,sharad, Hemant come in dakshinayana kalam (southern solstice).

Importance of Grishma Rutucharaya:                                  Ayurveda explains daily regime and seasonal regime for better health .In Summer season vata, pitta dosha increases and kapha dosha decreases .It is important to regulate these doshas.
Lets see what kind of diet and daily regime we can follow for 
healthy summer season.

Diet: 


·      Food which is sweet,cold and nature can be consumed.
·      Maunsa rasa(meat soup) should be consumed along with rice.
·      Buttermilk is considered amrut(elixir) in summers, It helps reduce pitta dosha and increases moisture content in the body.
·      Buffalo milk is considered beneficial in summers.
·      Diluted syrups of pitta reducing herbs like sariva, rose,jeshthmadh,lotus,ushir are consumed to balance the doshas.
·      Eating fruits like watermelon ,grapes, mango, jackfruit, pears, avocado, berries is good during summers.
·      Leafy vegetables,cucumber, all kinds of salads, sweet potato are better for consumption.
·      Gulkand (rose petal mixed with sugar syrup) should be eaten in summers.
·      Avoid fried foods in summers. Food must be easy to digest and light in nature .
·      Cut down on tea,coffee for reducing caffeine intake or it will cause acidity.
·      Left over food should not be eaten in summers.

Daily activity regime(Vihar):
·      Avoid excercising too much in summer season.
·      Evening time is considered better for exercise .
·      Afternoon sleep is allowed in summer .Ayurved does not allow afternoon sleep in any other season.
·      Morning routine should start as early as possible , use dantmanjan for brushing teeth .Take a bath with fragrant herbs and use soothing body scrubs . Herbs like sariva, ushira, jeshthamadh ,lotus, nagarmotha , chandan are used for bathing .
·      Having breakfast full of citrus fruits, fiber rich substance is considered beneficial.
·      Try to have lunch and dinner light in nature .
·      Drink minimum 3 to 5 litres of water to maintain moisture content in out body.
·      Sexual activity should be less in summer season as it increases vata and pitta dosha in body.
·      Taking a beach or forest vacation is adviced in summers.
·      Wearing light coloured clothing which are loose to fit is adviced.
·      Floral perfumes and relaxing scents and essential oil diffusers are adviced to be used in home.
·      Using neem leaves in bathing water is considered as a disinfectant.
·      Use earthen pot water diffused with ushir/vala for every day water consumption.
·      Alcohol consumption should be less in summer s as it causes dehydration and dosha imbalance.
·      Avoid exposure to sun and wind during summers, Use protective gears for the same.

By following proper diet and regime we can avoid summer disorders like stroke, sun burn dehydration.
